Wouldn’t a way to terraform Mars be to build a huge greenhouse?
You ‘d have to have heaters in the greenhouses for the plantlife to survive but if we did this we could control the amount of CO2 that came into the greenhouse and create oxygen. This would eventually lead to a significant reduction of CO2 in its atmosphere meaning we could make the martian atmosphere more like the Earths giving people the chance to breath air and grow food on the surface
Due to recent discoveries of frozen water on mars we would be able to nurture the plants as well.
What are your thoughts on this.
It would not only have to be heated, it would have to be pressurized. Liquid water on the surface of Mars cannot exist for more than a few minutes. That’s not because it is too cold (although that is usually also a problem). It’s because the pressure is too low, so the water boils, freezes and sublimates all at the same time.
Pressurizing is more difficult than heating, because it requires a sufficient strength in the structures to maintain the pressure and still withstand things like 200 mph surface winds.
But if it was easy, we probably would have already started.
