My convector heater is giving off a burning smell… is this abnormal and is this gas poisonous?

It’s a Dimplex CXL heater (convector/storage combination). I turned on the convector heating function for some instant heat. It gave off a strong burning smell that’s still lingering in my room.

On the positive side, it does release heat and my room is still warm even though I turned off the heater after just 5 seconds.

So I’m wondering if the smell signifies there’s something really wrong with the heater… and if I’ll die in bed tonight from gas poisoning or something (or should I check into a hotel for the night?) -__-

In case you’re wondering, it’s freezing here in Scotland.
And no, I cannot open the window. It’s stuck >_<

If you feel you ill go out side for air, and ventilated the place as much as possible, if this problems persists you should contact a corgi gas engineer and you it checked
