Saving on eletric bill?
I live in New Hampshire where the winters are very cold.
My boyfriend and I live in a 2 bedroom, first floor, 850sq. ft. apartment with baseboard heaters. Each room (kitchen/dining, living room, both bedrooms, and bath) have their own thermostat. The apartment manager asks that we keep the thermostats on at least 55 degrees year round. The kitchen/dining, bathroom, and spare room are kept at 55. I keep the bedroom at 60 at all times but the living room I toggle between 67ish when we’re home and about 60 while we’re sleeping. My boyfriend thinks that this is costing us more money because it has to work harder to warm up because the surrounding rooms are colder and that we should keep them all at the same temperature through out. I think it saves to turn the living room temp down at night and up by only 7 or so degrees during the day.
What do you think?
IMO I think that what you are doing would cost less money, unless you kept all of the thermostats @ the lower temp. Then, of course, that would cost less.
Sure the living room has to work little more to get the room to 67, but it would take more energy to keep the whole apartment @ 67 during the day and then turn it back down at night.
I guess the only way to tell for sure would be to check your meter doing it one way and then the other.
